A major fire broke out at shoe store, Bata, near Dadar TT on Monday.
No injuries were reported because the showroom remains closed on Monday.
However, material and shoe stock worth lakhs was damaged in the blaze.
Fire brigade officers said they received a call from an employee at 11 am who had gone to the showroom to check on the shoe stock. The employee noticed flames emitting from the shop and informed the fire brigade.
DS Patil, divisional fire officer said that four fire brigade engines and four water tankers were rushed to the spot. They were able to douse the fire within two hours.
“The stock of leather shoes and other material, including the billing machines were completely damaged in the fire,” said Patil.
“I was passing by the showroom when I saw flames. The fire was prevented from spreading to nearby shops by the fire brigade officers,” said Ram Mukhi, a passerby.
The cause of the fire was not established.
“We will have to conduct investigations and record statements of the owner as well as the employees to find the cause,” Patil said.
