The Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Monday asked private carrier Jet Airways to make announcements in Marathi besides showing movies and keeping newspapers of the language in flights operating from Mumbai.
“Jet Airways relays its in-flight entertainment programme in most other regional languages in their flights. As they also have their base in Mumbai, the airline should respect the sentiments of people and show in-flight programmes in Marathi,” said MNS member of Legislative Assembly Nitin Sardesai.
Sardesai has written to the airline stating that they should ask the flight pursers and airhostesses to greet the visitors in Marathi.
The letter said they would be writing letters to all other airlines asking them to use Marathi during the course of the flight. This is the second time that the party MNS has trained its guns on Jet Airways.
Thackeray had threatened to launch an agitation against the airline when they had attacked some of the party workers.
The airline spokesperson refused to comment on the issue.
