A 28-year-old sweeper was arrested over the murder of his friend and colleague over a trivial issue on Thursday.

The accused, Rahul Das, is a sweeper at Infiniti Mall in Andheri (West). An unidentified body was found on Monday near Madh Jetty in Malad. The head had been partly smashed with a stone making it difficult for the police to identify the person.

The police identified the body as that of Kamal Sardar, 30, who too was a sweeper at Infiniti Mall.

The police started questioning friends and colleagues of Sardar and found out that he and Das were involved in arguments over money issue.

Three months ago, Sardar lost his wallet and Rs 12,000 had been swindled from his ATM card. Sardar thought Das had stolen his wallet and began telling other colleagues. Das hatched a plan and took him to the Madh Jetty, where after drinking he smashed Sardar’s head with a stone. “He has been remanded to police custody until December 7,” said senior inspector V Aandhale.
