Vikram Lamba, brother of actor Mallika Sherawat, was booked by the Versova police on Monday, after a shot allegedly fired from his licensed pistol injured a boy.
At 11.40am on Sunday, a bullet shot into a room at the Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Versova, shattering the window pane. The high-calibre .45 mm bullet ricocheted off the wall, without hitting anyone. However, the room’s occupant — a boy identified as Patil — suffered minor injuries when shards of shattered glass pierced his cheek.
Police traced the source of the bullet to Vikram Lamba’s apartment, around 200 metres from the training institute.
In his statement, Lamba claimed that the bullet misfired while he was cleaning the weapon. Joint commissioner of police, law and order, Rajnish Seth told HT that Vikram had been booked under Sections 336 and 337 (causing hurt by an act of endangering life or personal safety) of the IPC and was likely to be arrested.
Police said Rahul Bhatt, son of fim-maker Mahesh Bhatt, was present with Lamba in the flat when the incident occurred. Rahul was recently in the news when he sought a firearm licence citing a threat to life. His application is pending with the police.
Both, Rahul Bhatt and Vikram Lamba remained unavailable for comment despite repeated calls and SMSes.
