The police are awaiting the post-mortem report of the 14-year-old girl from Malwani — who went missing in May and died after she returned home in October — to ascertain the exact cause of death.

The report will help the police ascertain if the victim was sexually exploited. The body of the girl will be handed over to the family after getting the report.

Meanwhile, Malwani residents protested against police inaction outside the police station on Monday. The police maintained that they had taken timely action and arrested the accused.

The accused claimed the victim accompanied him of her own free will and was not raped. The accused, a minor, has been sent to the Dongri Children’s Home. “We suspect more people to be involved in the crime,” said Abdul Rauf Shaikh, senior police inspector with Malwani police station.
