A nine-year-old girl was allegedly molested by her 22-year-old neighbour in Malwani earlier this month. The victim’s father filed a complaint on November 11, after which the accused was arrested.
The girl was at home with her six-year-old sister and uncle when the incident took place on November 2.
“Only my brother was at home and he is mentally unstable,” the father said, explaining that he had been admitted to a hospital that day for surgery to remove a gallbladder stone on November 3.
The accused, Shrikant Parte, a student from the locality, came to the house and allegedly enticed the girls to his place saying he would teach them to play computer games.
After the girls reached Parte’s house, he gave the victim’s sister money and asked her to buy chocolates. “Parte made my daughter sit on his lap and kissed her several times on her back. When he started touching her inappropriately, she jumped off his lap and ran home.”
The father said the girls called him on the phone to complain. “My wife and mother, who were in the hospital, rushed home.” The father registered a complaint on November 11 after he was discharged.
Parte’s mother works with a political party.
Abdul Rauf Shaikh, senior police inspector of Malwani police station, said: “We faced a lot of political pressure to not register the case, but we arrested the accused under section 354 of the Indian Penal Code.” Parte is out on bail as it’s a bailable offence.
“The man who molested my daughter is roaming about with his head held high while we are feeling ashamed,” said the victim’s father. Patre was not reachable on his cellphone.
