The Malwani police on Sunday arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly killing his stepfather on Saturday night.

Aziz Shaikh alias Pintu, a resident of Malwani, was arrested after a neighbour informed the police about the incident.

According to the police, Aziz, who was working as a daily wage labourer, was staying with his stepfather Nazrul Shaikh, a tailor, and his mother on the seventh floor of an SRA building at Marve Road in Malwani, Malad (West).

His mother is an acute diabetic. Police said Aziz would have frequent quarrels with his stepfather due to difference of opinion.

On Saturday, Aziz told Nazrul he wanted to sell off the room in which they were staying.

The house belongs to Nazrul. Aziz also informed Nazrul that he intended to take the money and go to his hometown in Uttar Pradesh.

Nazrul was against the idea. Following this they got into a heated argument.

In a fit of rage, Aziz took a knife and stabbed Nazrul several times.

After realising he was dead, Aziz rushed to Abdul Gaffar Mulla (42), Nazrul’s friend house and claimed that his father had an injury on his chest and was lying unconscious.

“When Mulla reached there and saw the cut injury, he suspected foul play. He was aware of Aziz’s behaviour towards Nazul and informed the police,” said an officer.

Nazrul was rushed to Bhagwati Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Aziz was arrested.

“During investigation we found that Aziz would frequently fight with Nazul and there was a lot of tension in their relationship. Locals told us that Aziz never got along with his stepfather,” said Senior Police Inspector V Aandhale.
