Man arrested for stealing cop’s car

A 26-year-old man who stole a Maruti Alto belonging to a policeman from Kurla on Monday was arrested by the Nehru Nagar police from Govandi on Tuesday.

A 26-year-old man who stole a Maruti Alto belonging to a policeman from Kurla on Monday was arrested by the Nehru Nagar police from Govandi on Tuesday.

Late Monday, Vijay Thakur, 42, a constable of the protection and security wing of the Mumbai police parked his car outside his Chunabhatti residence. Early Tuesday morning, he found the car missing following which he registered a police complaint.

The police alerted control rooms across the city and provided a description of the car. The police received information about a vehicle that matched the description provided being parked in Govandi. The police retrieved the car and on investigation found that one Ahmed Ali Kadir Shaikh had stolen it.

“We have arrested Shaikh. We are trying to find if he has a criminal record, ” said assistant police inspector P Shaikh.
