A farm activist attempted to hurl a shoe at chief minister Prithviraj Chavan during a programme in Khardi village in Solapur district on Sunday.

Chavan was inaugurating the sugarcane crushing season at Sitaram Sugar factory.

Security personnel promptly caught hold of the man, Mahesh Gajanan Kedar, 28, a Madha taluk president of the Shetakari Sanghatana, and took him out of the venue.

The Shetakari Sanghatana led by the Raghunathdada Patil faction has been demanding that permission not be given for crushing sugarcane to factories that have not paid farmers.
