A 25-year-old man was stabbed to death and another injured on Thursday night in a scuffle that broke after the two protested an inebriated man's attempt at harassing their woman friend. The deceased was identified as Kenin Sentos.
The incident took place at Caeser Road, Andheri West at around 11.40pm. Sentos and 28-year-old Reuben Fernandes had gone to Amboli restaurant for dinner with five other friends, which included three women. After enjoying the dinner — and the India-England cricket match being shown on the large screen at the restaurant — the group stepped out to have paan at a shop outside the restaurant. Jitendra Rana, a resident of Valmiki Nagar, was also standing at the paan shop along with two of his friends.
Reconstructing the sequence of events, police said that Rana lost his balance, allegedly in drunken stupor, and accidentally brushed past one of the women in the group. This agitated the Sentos and Fernandes, who asked Rana to behave himself, following which the two parties got into a heated argument.
“Rana and his friends left the place in a fit of rage, but returned a few minutes later with a group of over 15 men who started bashing up the duo,” VB Bhoite, senior police inspector with the DN Nagar police station. “Rana removed a knife and stabbed Sentos in the abdomen. Fernandes was also hit with bamboo sticks and sustained injuries,” he said.
A witness to the incident said it all happened too quickly for any of the bystanders to react.
Sentos and Fernandes were rushed to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital where Sentos was declared dead on arrival. He was working as a bartender at a five-star hotel, while Rueben is a student. Rana and his two accomplices — Sunil Bhoth and Satish Durgaj — were arrested in the early hours of Friday. The police are now searching for the fourth person involved in the crime. The trio has been booked for murder.
