The vice-president of a leading network provider was found dead at his residence at Santacruz on Friday.
According to the police Chandramurali Iyer, 48, had not left his flat in Trimurty Society at Santacruz for the past two days.
The neighbours started to sense something was wrong and got suspicious when he didn’t even open the door when they rang the doorbell.
“They (the residents) also started complaining of a foul smell emanating from Iyer’s house for the past two days. They then informed the police around 9pm,” said an official from Santacruz police station on condition of anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media.
When the police broke open the door they found Iyer hanging from the ceiling fan of his living room.
“Iyer’s body has been sent for a post-mortem,” said Madhukar Chaudhari, senior police inspector, Santacruz police station.
Chaudhari said that they had filed a case of accidental death report (ADR). “We are, however, investigating the case for any foul play,” he added.
Chaudhari said they had not found a suicide note near the deceased’s body.
According to the Santacruz police, Iyer was living alone in Mumbai while his family resides in Kerala.
