The Sakinaka police on Monday night arrested a tempo driver for allegedly raping his 13-year-old daughter three times in the last three months.
This is the fourth reported incest-rape case in the city in two years.
The police said the 40-year-old accused, Mahesh Pawar (name changed), has confessed to the crime and said he was drunk on all three occasions.
“After the girl lodged a complaint, we immediately arrested the father and charged him with rape,” said S.R. Dhanedhar. “We are taking down the statements of the family members.”
“My father first raped me on March 15. He came home drunk after work and told me to massage his legs. He then raped me,” the victim told the police.
“The accused threatened to harm her if she told anyone about it,” said a police officer, requesting anonymity.
But when he allegedly raped her again on May 19, she could not take it any longer. “She confided in her aunt and grandmother, who approached the police,” Dhanedhar said.
Pawar has five daughters from his first wife and two sons from his second wife. The victim is one of the twin daughters from Pawar’s first wife, who died six years ago. When Hindustan Times visited the victim’s hut at a Sakinaka slum, the family refused to talk. “He was drunk and made a mistake. We do not want to defame our family by talking about it,” said a family member.
After a medical examination, the girl was sent to the Dongri remand home.
