The air intelligence unit (AIU) of the Mumbai Customs on Wednesday arrested an Indian while he was allegedly trying to smuggle saffron, memory cards and iPods worth Rs 25 lakh.
Baliya Nizar Mohammad was arrested on arrival from Dubai by Air India flight AI 713. On checking his baggage, the AIU officers found 5 kg of saffron, one and two GB memory cards and some iPods.
The consignment was concealed in special cavities made inside the bag. The AIU, which had prior information on Mohammad, intercepted him the moment he landed at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport and tried to pass through the green channel.
