Mohammed Hussain Khan, 19, was arrested on Tuesday on the charge of sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl from his neighbourhood, for the past three months in Sanpada. His arrest comes only days after a 53-yr-old was awarded the death sentence for raping a three-year-old girl in Vashi.
Cops say that Khan was caught in the act by the girl’s grandmother on June 10. “Khan works as a helper at a mall. He lives in the building next to the victim’s,” said P Sawant, assistant police inspector at Turbhe police station.
“He would call the girl to the building terrace luring her with chocolates and then have unnatural sex with her.”
The police say the accused would target the girl when her mother would go for regular visits to see her husband who is currently in jail.
Sawant said, “For the past few days, the girl had been very quiet. After a neighbor suspected that something was wrong, the girl told her what had been happening.”
When the girl went to play a little while later, the woman told the minor’s grandmother everything. The grandmother set out to search for her and found that she was in a neighbouring building.
“When the grandmother went to the building, she saw Hussain fleeing from the place and the girl came down from the terrace,” Sawant added.
A police complaint registered. Khan was subsequently arrested.
