Troubled by the constant alimony demands, a 43-year-old man killed his former wife on Saturday.
Raees Ameen Khan, arrested on Tuesday, led them to the bushes in the Dharoli village of Madh where he had allegedly dumped the body of his ex-wife Sitara Begum (40).
Khan, who was married twice, had divorced Sitara around three months ago.
The police said the two had constant fights at Khan’s residence in Dharavi where he was staying with Sitara and his second wife Rajda Begum and eight children. Khan was allegedly fed up with the constant demands of Sitara even after their divorce.
The victim had allegedly asked Khan money a week ago to buy utensils. He told her that he would come along with her to buy the utensils. The couple reached the secluded Dharoli village in Madh area where Khan throttled Sitara to death and dumped her body in the swamp.
When Sitara — who was staying with her parents at Dharavi — did not return till Sunday night, the family registered a missing person’s complaint. The police summoned Khan who confessed to have killed her, claiming he was tired of her constant demands.
“We have arrested Khan on charges of murder and will produce him before the Borivli court on Wednesday,” said V. R. Aandhale, senior police inspector of Malwani police station.
A police officer from Malwani police station said that Khan had planned the murder and surveyed the Madh area well before choosing a spot to kill Sitara.
