A 35-year-old man from Aarey Colony was arrested for allegedly killing his wife after she refused to give him money to buy alcohol on Sunday.
The police records identified the accused as Reesha Hadal, a gardener living at Maroshi Pada. Hadal, a drunkard, would often quarrel with his wife and assault their two kids after consuming alcohol, said the police.
On Sunday night after Hadal returned from work, he reportedly asked his wife Sunita (35) for money to buy alcohol.
“When Sunita confronted him about the same, the accused got furious and hit her,” said Senior Police Inspector A. Jadhav.
The officials said this led to a fight between them, with Sunita shouting back at him.
“This angered the accused further and he started hitting her more violently. During the quarrel, he also alleged her of having an illicit relationship with someone,” added Jadhav.
The officials said that due to a forceful push from the accused, the victim fell and injured her head, face and arms.
“The fall on her head, caused a brain hemorrhage, leading to her death at Rajawadi Hospital,” said another police officer.
Hadal soon realised his crime and surrendered himself at the Aarey colony police station.
The case was later handed over to the Powai police as the incident spot falls under their jurisdiction.
