The Kurla railway police on Thursday arrested a man who posed as ticket checker (TC) and cheated commuters. The accused has been identified as Santosh Ramchandra Gawde, 23, who is originally from Satara district and has been staying in the city for the past few years.
On Thursday, Shashank Omprakash Mishra, 20, a student of Somaiya College, was intercepted at Ghatkopar railway station by Gawde, who asked for his ticket posing as a TC. Mishra, who suspected foul play, told him that his father works with the Western Railway and asked Gawde for his identity card.
Gawde started making excuses and Mishra reported the matter to the Kurla railway police to whom Gawde was handed over. “Gawde works as a construction labourer but his main source of income is cheating people. He has been booked under IPC sections 170 and 171,” said Shivaji Dhumal, senior inspector, Kurla railway police station.
