A man stabbed a prostitute to death after she refused to have sex with him and later killed himself at VP Road on Wednesday evening.
The man has been identified as Kailas Pandurang Kamble, 22, who stabbed Lakshmi Kamble, 30, to death in the red-light area near VP Road.
Rajendra Chavan, senior police inspector of VP Road police station, said, “Kailas had visited Lakshmi earlier that day. They had a fight and she refused to comply with his wishes. He returned at 9.30 pm that night and stabbed her.”
According to the police, Kailas stabbed Lakshmi in the house first and later dragged her out of the house by her hair and stabbed her again.
“When he realised that people on the road were about to catch him, he started stabbing himself until he lost consciousness,” Chavan said.
Both, Kailas and Lakshmi were rushed to JJ Hospital, where they were declared dead at 12.15am on Thursday.
According to the police, the owner of Lakshmi’s house, Kamala, said she had tried to stop Kailas when he first stepped in to Lakshmi’s room with the knife, but he threatened to kill her and pushed her away.
The police said that they are investigating the possibility of Kailas being Lakshmi’s jilted lover.
“Kailas had come to Mumbai four or five days ago looking for a job, following an argument with his family. We found a ticket to his hometown, Malegaon, on a train scheduled on Friday. It seems he had visited Lakshmi on several occasions when he had come to Mumbai in the past,” Chavan said.
