An office delivery boy, who had allegedly stolen Rs 15 lakh from his Carnac Bunder firm last week, was caught on Sunday. Crime Branch officials recovered Rs 6 lakh of the stolen amount and two mobile phones from him.
Rajendrakumar Singh (25), who is originally from Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh, had migrated to Mumbai in 2001 and got a job with the Marine International Ship Stores Suppliers, which deals with supplies to shipping firms.
Singh, who delivered cash to the firm's business associates, soon won his employer's trust.
But when his employer refused to hike his salary, Singh, who lives in Dharavi, got upset.
This led to arguments with the employer, said joint commissioner of police, crime, Himanshu Roy. Singh, who had struck a friendship with a paan stall owner near his office,
then allegedly planned the robbery with him.
Last week, the owner gave Singh Rs 15 lakh to deliver to a firm, but Singh took it to the paan stall owner and they divided the money between themselves.
When his employer found out that Singh had not delivered the money and was missing, he lodged a complaint with the Pydhonie police. Constable Madhusudan Rane of Unit XII crime branch, working on a tip-off that Singh was seen in Dahisar, arrested him on Sunday.
The police are still looking for the paan stall owner.
