The Shivaji Nagar police are on the lookout for a 35 to 40 year old man whom they suspect could have molested the nine-year-old girl in the women’s toilet of a civic school on Thursday.
Police also suspect the man was drunk when he molested her.
When the girl raised an alarm from the toilet, the private security personnel posted at the school rushed to help, said the police.
“The security guard checked the toilet but the accused had fled. The guard then saw a person in an inebriated state on the stairs of the school and confronted him about the incident,” said VB Malve, sub inspector, Shivaji Nagar police station.
“The man denied having committed the act and left the spot. The guard slapped him and asked him not to come to the school again. We suspect he might have committed the crime,” he added.
The police have asked the watchman and the caretaker of the school who saw the man to stay alert.
“We have asked them to notify us immediately if they see him again. The girl is very young and we do not want to bother her too much by asking her for the exact description of the accused.”
The medical reports of the girl have revealed that she was not sexually assaulted and there are no abrasions.
Investigations have revealed that there was no record of outsiders entering the school.
“There was no record maintained as plenty of people would visit the school as it is also an Aadhar card distribution centre. We have asked the school authorities to maintain a register and write the details of those who visit the school,” said Malve.
