A real-estate agent who provided tiffins to members of the Chotta Shakeel gang lodged in Arthur Road Jail was shot at in Mazgaon on Saturday. Two bike-borne assailants fired three rounds at 25-year-old Sohail Ilyas alias Soni Abdul Majid Khan. One of the bullets caught Khan in the ankle. He was rushed to JJ Hospital, where his condition is said to be critical.

The incident took place around 3pm on Shaikh Burhan Kamruddin street in Teli Mohalla, Mazgaon. According to the police, two men on a red bike fired at Khan near his residence and sped from the spot. "The bike-rider was wearing a helmet, while the one riding pillion had his face partially covered," said Nisar Tamboli, Mumbai police spokesperson. Khan stays in the same locality and works as commissioning agent dealing in second-hand bikes and cars.

Sources said that Khan earlier provided tiffins for Chotta Shakeel's gang members locked in the Arthur Road jail. Khan had also been providing tiffin to an accused in the 1993 serial blasts case Ehtesham Shaikh, whose brother is Khan's close friend.

The JJ police have registered a case of attempt to murder and are probing the case.
