Maria Susairaj talks to press, says she's innocent

Hours after being released from jail in connection with Neeraj Grover murder case, Kannada actress Maria Susairaj on Saturday held a press conference along with her lawyer Shaikh M Sharif. Her lawyer said that Neeraj's body was intact and not chopped into pieces.

Addressing the media, lawyer Shaikh M Sharif said, "This press conference is to let the public know the truth of the case and both sides of story from the prosecution and defence side."

He showed a picture claiming that Neeraj's body was intact and said that there were no burn marks on Neeraj's body.

The lawyer said that they will now appeal in the higher court and challenge Maria's conviction in the case for destroying evidence.

When media persons asked Maria about the case, she just said, "I am innocent, I will not talk more, my lawyer will say whatever needs to be said." Maria's lawyer also made it clear that she is not going to do any TV or film shows.

During the press conference, Neeraj's friends staged protest.

Talking about her life in jail, she said she has left her past behind. "I'm convicted and this is a big stigma in my life," she said. "During my time in jail, I feel blessed to have gotten close to God," Maria said.

Maria Susairaj, sentenced to a three-year jail term in Neeraj Grover murder case - walked free on Saturday. A Mumbai court had sentenced her for three years for destruction of evidence in the gruesome murder of television executive Neeraj Grover in 2008, which she has already served.
