Mayor Shraddha Jadhav visited Kurla (west) and met the residents of Shikshak Nagar on Thursday.
The residents have been protesting against the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority’s (MMRDA) plans to chop existing trees.
After hearing their grievances, Jadhav has now promised a joint meeting of the residents with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and the MMRDA officials soon.
The controversy erupted when residents learnt that the development authority was planning to chopp off around 150 trees from the Shikshak Nagar garden, near LBS Marg in Kurla (west).
The authority was chopping off the trees to build a service lane along the Mithi river.
Agreeing to the residents’ objections, Jadhav said, “Since there are objections from the residents, these points must be taken into consideration while giving a go ahead to the project.
