The MIDC police investigating the murder of Ansh Agarwal, 16, arrested the father of the 17-year-old boy, the main accused in the case, who had a fight with Agarwal that led to the former’s death.
Shivkumar S Gosalkar, 46, owner of a country liquor bar in south Mumbai, was arrested on Saturday on the charge of conspiracy, as he allegedly asked his son’s friends to bash up Agarwal, without worrying about consequences.
Police added that apart from the 13 persons arrested so far, including Gosalkar, more arrests were likely in the case. Police also said that Gosalkar had been remanded to police custody till April 25.
Rahul (name changed as he is a minor), the main accused, on Tuesday had an argument with Agarwal regarding a lewd text message he allegedly sent to Agarwal’s friend. Rahul then called on his friends to seek revenge and beat up Agarwal, said the police.
Inspector Mohan Waghmare, MIDC police said, “ His friends were willing to accompany him but were worried about the police. Rahul told them to not worry about the police as his father had good contacts.”
“Gosalkar told Rahul’s friends to accompany his son and beat up Agarwal. He assured them that he would ‘take care’ of the police,” added Waghmare.
Rahul then allegedly tracked down Agarwal to the JB Nagar area of Andheri (East) and thrashed him to death.
Waghmare said that they were going through the numbers dialled by the accused around the time when the incident took place. “We suspect involvement of more persons who are likely to be arrested soon,” added Waghmare.
