Unidentified persons tried to set fire to the house of a Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader in the early hours of Saturday. The incident took place in Appapada area of Kurar in Malad. The MNS leader Prashant Rane had contested the civic polls but was defeated.

Soon after the poll results were declared, Rane received a call from an unknown caller, who accused him of losing the polls deliberately. The caller warned Rane of dire consequences. Rane did not take the threat seriously.

Around 3:30am on Saturday, unidentified miscreants poured kerosene on the walls of Rane's house and on the furniture outside and set it on fire. The fire was brought under control but not before it damaged some of the furniture.

Police have registered a case of causing damage to the property and criminal intimidation against unidentified persons.
