A controversy has erupted in political circles with former colleague and trustee of Mumbai Educational Trust (MET) accusing public works minister Chhagan Bhujbal, also the trustee, of mismanaging the institute.
Bhujbal has refuted the complaint by Sunil Karve, who co-founded the institute with him, as a political move to defame him before the elections.
Sources close to Bhujbal said that Karve had moved to another institute and was hence politicising internal tiffs to defame the trust run by Bhujbal.
Though Karve has filed a complaint with the Mumbai police commissioner and Economic Offences Wing, a case has not been registered yet.
Karve has also asked the charity commissioner to dismiss Bhujbal and his family members, son Pankaj, nephew Sameer and wife Meena from the posts of trustees.
The main accusation is that Bhujbal has been treating the institute as his personal property including using the institute’s premises to run his furniture business. Karve has alleged that though Bhujbal failed in paying for MET’s campus in Nashik, as he had promised, he unilaterally named it Bhujbal Knowledge City.
