In a drama that ensued for nine hours at LT Marg, parents of a 10-year-old child filed a kidnapping complaint against a 40-year-old woman, who disappeared with the child claiming she would secure an admission for him in a civic school.
However, a taxi driver found the child crying near Masjid Bunder and brought him back to his family. The police are investigating to trace the woman, who took the child to the school and allegedly left him there.
Niraj Gupta was reported missing by his father Ramkumar, a fruit vendor at LT Marg, on Thursday around 11am. Ramkumar told the police that an unidentified woman, around 40 years of age, had approached him claiming that she would get his son admission in a civic school close by.
“The woman purchased some fruits and casually struck up a conversation with Ramkumar. The woman then claimed to be a teacher at a school nearby and told Ramkumar to send Niraj with her to get the necessary paper work done for the admission. However, when Niraj didnot return for four hours after he left, Ramkumar approached us,” said YK Patil, assistant police inspector of LT Marg police station.
The police commenced investigations to trace Niraj, however, at around 8pm, Niraj returned to LT Marg where Ramkumar had set up his fruit stall.
“When we asked Niraj, he told us that the lady took him around the city instead of taking him to the school. However, when Niraj started crying and asking for his father, the lady left him near Masjid Bunder and never returned,” said Patil. Niraj hired a taxi and reached home.
He added, “We are trying to trace the lady and investigations are on to ascertain her motive behind taking Niraj.
