Sena corporator Pravin Devhare was disqualified by the Bombay High Court for submitting fake caste certificates while contesting the civic elections in 2007. Prakash Patankar, the runner-up in the elections, was declared winner.

This was the second setback for the Shiv Sena in its traditional bastion, Dadar, this year at the hands of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena.

The seat is significant as this houses the Sena Bhavan, Mayor's Bungalow and the residence of MNS president Raj Thackeray. It was from this seat that Sena stalwart and former chief minister Manohar Joshi started his political journey.

Devhare had contested elections from Dadar (West) municipal ward 185. Patankar had moved the court against Devhare which ruled against the latter.

With this, the number of the MNS corporators is now eight. Sena has 87. In the Assembly election, the Sena suffered a blow when its sitting legislator Sada Sarvankar defected to the Congress after being denied nomination and the infighting benefited MNS candidate Nitin Sardesai who won the battle.
