Home minister RR Patil, on Friday, ordered an IG level inquiry into the Aurangabad case where a Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) MLA was allegedly tortured in custody by the Aurangabad police after a scuffle with a cop.
“I have asked the Aurangabad IG to find out what happened and submit a report to me in a day’s time,” Patil said.
The incident took place on Wednesday when MNS MLA Harshwardhan Jadhav tried to enter a restricted area at the Ellora caves in Aurangabad. The caves were cordoned off for two hours when the chief minister Prithviraj Chavan was visiting the area.
According to the police, Jadhav who was in his car, was stopped by the police, following which he got into a scuffle with a cop whom he even tried to allegedly run over.
Following the incident, the MLA was charged under various sections of the IPC. After his arrest, Jadhav claimed torture in custody post which he was admitted to the hospital. MNS MLA Nitin Sardesai claimed that Jadhav would need 10 days to recover.
