On the heels of Shiv Sena announcing its decision not to participate in the September 20 national shutdown, the Raj Thackeray-led MNS has said that the party will not join the proposed protest against the diesel price hike and FDI in retail.

"As per the directions from party president Raj Thackeray, we announce that Maharashtra Navnirman Sena will not participate in the Bharat bandh on September 20," a press statement issued in Mumbai said.

The party, however, did not assign any reason for its decision to not participate in the strike.

BJP-led NDA and UPA ally Samajwadi Party, along with a number of other non-UPA parties, have separately announced the bandh in protest against the hike in diesel price and FDI in multi-brand retail.
