The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray has objected to people dressing up as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj during processions to mark the coronation ceremony of the Maratha king.

“All political parties need to ensure that such activities are stopped. Instead, portraits of Shivaji can be worshipped during the processions,” Thackeray said yesterday at the DVD launch of a Marathi TV serial ‘Raja Shiv Chhatrapati’.

The coronation ceremony also courted controversy this year over permission for a function at Raigad fort.
