The Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has decided to set up a Marathi Bhasha Academy in Pune to promote the use of Marathi language and culture.

Among other things, the academy will translate English literature into Marathi and Marathi writings into English.

It will be set up in about six months.

The academy will also have the history of Marathi language, innovation, how it changed over the decades, research materials on the language and how it is used in daily life.

Volunteers of Pune-based Maharashtra Samajik Navnirman Academy, a wing of the MNS, are working on the project. “Our volunteers are working on the project. The Marathi Bhasha Academy will be ready soon,” said Anil shidore, the director of the academy.

He said the MNS wants Marathi to be a language of information like English. The party wants books on engineering, medical, architecture to be published in Marathi and encourage students to use them.

“We are working on it since all books available are only in English instead of Marathi,” said Shidore.

“The research team will take another six months and then academy will be formed,” he added.

Recently, the transport wing of MNS had distributed Marathi alphabet books among taxi drivers so that they could learn the language.
