A ‘mock bomb threat preparedness evacuation drill’ was held at Mumbai airport’s domestic terminals 1A and 1C on Sunday to test co-ordination and response of all agencies in-keeping with the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) requirement.
The drill began at 1.15 pm. All passengers and staff at the domestic terminal were successfully evacuated and the terminal thoroughly frisked within the set time and guidelines. The drill conducted jointly by MIAL and CISF ended at 1.55 pm.
"Under the airport security plan, a mock bomb threat preparedness drill was carried out at the terminal 1A for at least 30 minutes this afternoon to test the response time and co-ordination of all agencies," a CISF official said, on condition of anonymity, because he is not authorised to speak to the media.
Passengers were evacuated from the domestic terminal as CISF personnel, along with Bomb Disposal and Detection Squad, carried out searches for an 'explosive-laden bag' planted in the terminal building as part of the drill.
"As part of the exercise, the airport was evacuated and thorough searches were carried out to locate the bag," the official said.
