Did months of unemployment, financial trouble, major health issues and a marriage on the rocks finally push Bidushi Dash-Barde over the edge?
The 23-year-old model, who was found dead in her Andheri apartment on Monday, had started seeking psychiatric help and was on anti-depressants, the police said. She had recently undergone surgery on her eyelids and a hair transplant.
“Because she was in such a troubled state of mind and constantly on anti-depressants, we are not ruling out the possibility of suicide,” said a police officer from DN Nagar police station, on condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.
The police said Dharampal, the watchman of Manish Nagar housing society, where Bidushi lived with her software engineer husband, Kedar, 26, had seen a man visit their house at 2.14pm on the day of her murder. He, however, left after he did not get a response.
“We have learnt that the man was one Dr Sharma who had come to give her a head massage. We are recording his statement,” said another officer who did not wish to be named.
The police said the former Miss Chennai had previously worked in a few Tamil films. However, she had slipped into depression after been out of work and her health condition had aggravated the situation.
“Also, Kedar and Bidushi would fight very often. Since she didn’t have any work, the couple relied on his monthly salary of Rs. 60,000 to run the house. Of this, they paid Rs. 22,000 as rent. And with Bidushi’s ongoing treatment, they were facing a lot of financial trouble and had even loaned money from a few people,” the officer added.
On Sunday, a day before Bidushi was found dead, the couple had had an argument over a domestic issue, the police said.
Kedar had found Bidushi in a pool of blood at their residence on Monday night. He had told the police that his wife was diabetic and had fallen unconscious on several previous occasions.
He had said there was a chance that she may have felt dizzy and fallen on the shelf, leading to the injuries and profuse bleeding, causing her death. Based on Kedar’s statement, the police recorded an accidental death on late Monday night.
However, after conducting a panchnama and based on the nature of injuries, the police, on Tuesday, registered a case of murder against an unidentified person.
