The DN Nagar police investigating the murder case of 23-year-old model Bidushi Dash-Barde, on Tuesday, questioned an Andheri-based hotel owner who claims the aspiring model owed him Rs 60,000.

Although the police are still not certain if it is a case of murder or accidental death, they are exploring the theory that she might have been murdered by someone she owed money to. Bidushi had borrowed money from several people without the knowledge of her software engineer husband, Kedar, police said.

The hotel owner was questioned as part of this probe. He runs a Biryani centre close to Bidushi’s home at Manish Nagar housing society in the Four Bungalows area of Andheri (West). He told the police that Bidushi had ordered food on several occasions and had run up a tab of Rs60,000 over the course of a year.

“Kedar, however, said the couple had never ordered food from the hotel, though this did not stop the hotelier from sending them food frequently,” said the official.
The police said that the crime branch is conducting a parallel probe into the incident, though they don’t have any leads on the case yet.

“If you consider Bidushi’s post mortem report and the panchnama we had conducted at her home after her death, it becomes obvious that the culprit, if this is a murder case, had not planned to murder her. He did not use any weapon to attack her, so it is obvious that the intention was not murder,” said another official.

The accused, if there is one, may have pushed Bidushi, who struck a glass shelf and bled to death. He would have panicked and left, the officer said.
“Even the police are surprised how there are no leads on the case yet, although a week has passed since her murder. There is nothing concrete and we are groping in the dark even now,” said an official.
