Mohammad Ajmeri Shaikh, who was held in connection with the rape and murder of a minor in suburban Kurla and released from jail last week, has been arrested in another case, police said on Friday.
Shaikh (29) was put behind bars last night for allegedly molesting a woman and stealing her mobile phone in Quereshi Nagar area.
"We have arrested him on charges of molestation and theft. He was produced before a local court, which remanded him to judicial custody till August 13," Deputy Police Commissioner Dilip Sawant told PTI.
A four-storeyed building had collapsed in Quereshi Nagar, killing a six-year-old boy and injuring ten others yesterday.
While grief-stricken victims were searching for their belongings last night at the site where Rafique Estate building fell, Shaikh sneaked into a house in the area and molested a woman, the DCP said.
"He then escaped from the scene after the woman raised alarm. However, her mobile was missing," he said adding a manhunt was launched and Shaikh was nabbed.
Over a month after he was granted bail, Shaikh was released from the Arthur Road Jail after he provided the surety for his bail last week.
Shaikh, a rickshaw driver, was earlier arrested on March 9 this year for allegedly raping and murdering a nine-year-old girl, whose body was recovered from the terrace of a police quarters building at Nehru Nagar in suburban Kurla.
