Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan has said that the state was mulling to adopt the Haryana model for compensation for project-affected people so that land acquisition for projects becomes easier.

The Haryana model has a provision of giving land price at the market rates. It also provides for long-term annual monetary benefits to the PAPs.

“Both the state and centre governments are working in this direction,” Chavan said at the sidelines of the 22nd national conclave of electricity regulators here on Monday.

Chavan justified the demand for more compensation by project-affected people.

“The Parliament is expected to clear a bill in this regard. I also favour adequate compensation for the people,” said the chief minister.

When asked about the progress on the Jaitapur nuclear power plant, Chavan said that he would be visiting the place on February 26 to discuss the land compensation issue with local farmers who are opposed to the plant.
