South Mumbai MP Milind Deora and NCP MP Supriya Sule, have written to Chief Minister Ashok Chavan urging him to start work on Mumbai Transharbour Link (MTHL) connecting Sewri with Nhava in Raigad district.

“The project is crucial for the city. As population is growing, the city will expand to Raigad and the sea link will be an important connection to Mumbai,” said Deora.

“We have written to CM and deputy CM. The government should take up the project on priority basis keeping differences aside,” he added.

The third signatory is independent MP Ashok Ganguly. The debate over who will build the sea link has been on for five months with two government agencies, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority and Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation staking claims over it.
