An under trial in the 1993 serial blasts case on Tuesday morning allegedly abused and assaulted an officer and a constable who was posted to take the accused along with others to Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) court for their court hearing.

The NM Joshi Marg police booked Feroz Rashid Khan, 45, for allegedly beating and abusing assistant inspector Anup Dange, 42, along with constable Ghuge, outside Arthur Road jail.

In his complaint, Dange told the police that a team of 15 officers and constables from the local arms division are assigned to ferry undertials to court. On Tuesday, Khan along with the other accused including Mustafa Dossa, Tahir Merchant, Abdul Kayyum Sheikh, Karimilla Khan were being taken for a TADA court hearing.

The incident occurred when according to the procedure Dange asked the constables to frisk the undertrials. The accused and Karmulla Khan, another undertial in the 1993 case took objection to this and started abusing the police. Dange told them that this was being done as per rules and he would be taking them to the court only after frisking them. This further angered Khan and he beat up Dange, according to the statement.

“He also threatened me of dire consequences and also said he would be filing a fake application in court,” the statement further read.

“We have registered a case under section 353, 332, 186 and 189 of the Indian Penal Code,” said Rajesh Aliwar, sub-inspector at NM Joshi Marg police station.
