Two men from the Chhota Rajan gang —Prashant Muliya alias Annu and Nadeem Kazi — were on Thursday arrested in Navi Mumbai for their alleged involvement in several cases of extortion. Twelve mobile phones and a 7.65mm country-made firearm, along with two live rounds, were recovered.
The police got leads on the duo, after the arrest of their four other accomplices. The six accused worked under a Chhota Rajan aide Aftab Alam alias Haji. Haji operates from Bangkok and has at least 10 cases of extortion, along with a red corner notice, against him.
The accused used to get details of plots under dispute in the Kamothe-Ulwe belt in Navi Mumbai.
The crime branch officials learned their modus operandi while probing an extortion case involving a chartered accountant and a developer from Dahisar.
“The duo used to pass on the information on land owners to Haji in Malaysia, who then made the extortion calls,” said Dhananjay Kulkarni, deputy commissioner and Mumbai police spokesperson.
