The Versova police arrested three security guards for murder after they bashed up a 35-year-old man, who died in police custody on Wednesday. The police had arrested the deceased, Gotiram Shivekar, for allegedly assaulting the security guards on Tuesday and after few hours he died in the police custody.
Satayaprakash Vaidya, 35, Sheetal Kamath, 25 and Santosh Kamath, 24, were working in Avinash building at Seven Bungalows, Andheri (West). Shivekar used to live on the footpath on the opposite side of the building.
Arundhati Rane, senior inspector at Versova police station, said, “The security guards kicked and hit Shivekar with bamboo while he was trying to enter the building premises under the influence of alcohol on Tuesday afternoon.”
Police claim the deceased had also assaulted the security guards and so he was arrested. “When Shivekar complained of stomach pain, we rushed him to Cooper Hospital, and following his allegation, we booked the trio under the charge of 323 (assault), 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace)” said Rane.
