The DB Marg police on Saturday arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly molesting a 26-year-old woman working with a private company.

The incident took place when the woman was returning to her DB Marg home from work.

Naresh Bedkar, a resident of Panvel who works in South Mumbai, was drunk when he saw the woman near Opera House. When the woman crossed Bedkar on the road, he approached her from behind and touched her inappropriately.

The woman then raised an alarm, which alerted others present in the vicinity. “Those who saw Bedkar started chasing him. When Bedkar saw that people were coming after him, he tried to escape and went towards Kennedy Bridge,” said an official from DB Marg police station.

The people continued to chase Bedkar even after he had got off the bridge and caught him. He was then taken to Gamdevi police station, where a zero FIR was registered.

The case was later transferred to DB Marg police station. Police sources said Bedkar was accompanied by another man who fled the spot when the incident took place.

Bedkar has been remanded to police custody till Tuesday.
