The Mumbai police are looking for a man who allegedly abandoned his 85-year-old mother outside a hospital in south Mumbai a fortnight ago.
The police said the woman, who does not remember her residential address, was admitted to St George’s Hospital after a doctor spotted her outside Bombay Hospital. No case has been registered yet.
The police said the woman, Hansa Rajput, was abandoned outside the hospital around July 20. The doctor, Niranjan Patel, spotted her a day later and informed the police control room. A team from Azad Maidan police then admitted her to the hospital.
While she does not remember any details of herself, she told the police her son’s name is Dilip and mentioned the Ganesh Gully area. The police are now trying to find the man on the basis of this information.
Dilip Ugale, senior police inspector, Kalachowkie police station, said “From Monday, they have started looking for the son at Ganesh Gully. No such person has been traced till now. Looking at the mother’s condition, further enquiries will be made and if needed a case of negligence could be registered based on the irresponsible behaviour of the son when traced.”
“The Kalachowkie police and the local crime branch officials are trying to trace her kin. A case will be registered after somebody is traced,” said Dhananjay Kulkarni, deputy commissioner and Mumbai police spokesperson.
