A 29-year-old Mumbai-based fashion designer Drashta Sarvaiya filed a complaint against another designer Aanchal Chanda from Delhi, alleging that she had stolen designs from her collection and had been passing them off to foreign buyers as her own.

She filed a complaint on Wednesday with the Mumbai police’s cyber crime department and is planning to take legal action.

“I was aghast when my agent told me that one of our clients in Dubai called to say that there was a brand from Europe which had been circulating designs that were identical to mine,” said Sarvaiya.

She called Chanda, who denied having copied the designs. “She refused to believe me and insisted that she needed proof that the designs were mine because her sales team was handling the business,” Sarvaiya said.

“I don’t know how much damage she’s done to my business because I don’t know how many people she has emailed these designs to,” Sarvaiya said.

Chanda alleged that Dharshta called her up and used abusive language.

“This is probably a publicity stunt,” Chanda said. “Since today was a holiday, I will go to office on Thursday and sort out the matter.”
