The India Music Group of St Xavier’s College, which organises various classical musical concerts on campus through the year, has announced the line-up for Janfest ’15. The festival will be held on January 25 and 26.
The festival, organised every year, invites classical music stalwarts from across the country for a two-day event aimed at promoting and preserving the tradition of Indian classical music among the youth.
Now in its 42nd year, the festival will feature a jugalbandi between renowned Carnatic vocalist Bombay Jayashri and flautist Pandit Ronu Majumdar as the star performance.
Other artists set to perform include Hindustani vocalists Kaushiki Chakraborty, Ashwini Bhide-Despande and Ustad Rashid Khan and santoor artist Rahul Sharma.
“The IMG hopes to showcase the wonders of classical music to music aficionados. We hope to inculcate a larger fan base among existing lovers too,” says Sampurna Mitra, committee member at IMG.
The festival is divided into morning and evening sessions, held at 6 am and 6 pm.
