A special team has been formed to solve the Goregaon robbery case, in which a 26-year old labour contractor was kidnapped and robbed of Rs 1 lakh by three men.

Although the police have identified the main accused in the case, they were unable to trace his location. “The accused also stole the victim’s mobile phone, which has been switched off. Apart from the special team, the Mumbai crime branch is also probing the case,” said Sunil Vadke, senior inspector at Goregaon police station.

The incident took place on Thursday around 9pm, when Ganesh Jadhav, a labour contractor working at Film city, had come to Siddharth Hospital to meet an acquaintance. The accused were waiting there. One of the accused, Lalit, knew the victim from before. He allegedly engaged Jadhav in a conversation, the police said.

The trio then asked him to sit in a SUV. As soon as Jadhav sat in the car, they threatened and hit him on his head with blunt object.

In his complaint, Jadhav said the trio first robbed him of Rs 71,000 in cash, and took away his ATM card. They also took his PIN and withdrew Rs 30,000 from an ATM kiosk in Andheri, before dumping him there, the police said. Jadhav then approached the Goregaon police.

“We have contacted the bank to get the CCTV footage of the ATM kiosk. We also checking the CCTV footages near Siddharth hospital,” said Vadke.
