Gangster Dawood Ibrahim’s sister, Haseena Parkar, died on Sunday following a massive heart attack, police said.
Doctors at the Habib Hospital in Umerkhedi, Dongri, where Parkar, 54, was admitted after she complained of chest pain and uneasiness, said she had a history of cardiac ailments. She is survived by a son and two daughters
“Parkar was brought in a very critical condition. We tried our best to resuscitate her, but she died of a severe heart attack. She did have a history of cardiac problems, and I had treated her in the past,” said Dr Altaf Patel.
Sources close to the family said Parkar was at her house, Gordon House, at Dimtimkar Road in Nagpada when she suffered a stroke around 2.30pm. Family members took her to the hospital, where she passed away during treatment.
According to sources, Parkar’s body was brought back to the house and will be buried at the Bada Kabrastan at Marine Lines after midnight.
It is alleged that Parkar was the one who took care of Dawood’s business interests in Mumbai after the gangster fled from the country. She allegedly dabbled in real estate, mostly in settling business disputes between rival developers.
In 2007, an Andheri-based developer lodged a complaint of extortion, coercion and intimidation against her. She was arrested by the crime branch and was in prison for over a week before she was given bail.
Parkar’s husband, Ibrahim Parkar, a small time businessman, was gunned down by member of the Arun Gawli gang in 1991. In retaliation, Dawood deputed 18 of his men to kill the shooters — Shailesh Haldankar and Vipin Shere — inside JJ hospital. A police officer and a constable were killed as well.
