The anti-extortion cell of the Mumbai crime branch on Thursday arrested the main accused in the Film City firing case. Senior inspector Vinayak Vast said they had arrested Suresh Gaikwad following a tip-off that he was coming to meet one of his accomplices near Jogeshwari railway station.

Gaikwad has four past criminal cases against his name, the police said.

According to the police, Gaikwad was lodged in a city jail in 2005 when he heard about Vicky Malhotra, a prominent Chhota Rajan aide. While committing the crime. Gaikwad used the name Malhotra.

The Aarey police investigating the firing arrested three more people on Thursday in connection with the case, where Srikant Shinde alias Raju was fired at outside Film City on May 22.

The accused arrested have been identified as Suresh Gaikwad, Satish More, Jeetu Dhiwar and Sandeep Khairnar, one of whom fired at Shinde, the police said. One suspect, Rakesh Kamble, continues to remain at large.

“We have arrested seven accused so far. We have also seized a weapon. Investigations are on,” said Vilas Chavan, senior inspector at the Aarey sub police station.
