A 25-year-old married man, who allegedly raped a four-year-old girl from his neighbourhood in Malad (West), was arrested on Monday.
According to the Malad police, the accused called out to the girl, when she was playing outside her house. On learning that her parents were not at home, he asked her to accompany him. As her parents often spoke to him, the girl agreed to go with the accused.
The man took the child to his residence, where he allegedly assaulted her sexually. He then left the girl outside her house, said police.
When her parents returned, the child complained of pain, after which they took her to a hospital in the vicinity. The doctors told the child’s parents there were injuries on her private parts. The parents then approached the Malad police.
“We have arrested him on charges of rape. He has been remanded in police custody. We are probing the incident,” said Milind Khetle, senior inspector at Malad police station.
The police said the accused is a college dropout and currently unemployed. He used to stay with his wife, but she recently left him and now lives with her parents. The police are checking if he has been involved in any such incident in the past.
