The manhunt launched by various units of the Mumbai police to track down drug dealer Baby Patankar has taken the police to multiple locations, but there has been little success so far. Patankar has managed to evade arrest.

Sources in the Mumbai crime branch said there are several teams of officers from police stations, the crime branch and the anti-narcotics cell trying to trace her. Patankar is wanted in connection with the arrest of constable Dharmaraj Kalokhe, who was arrested by the Satara police with 112 kg of Mephedrone (MD), after which the Mumbai police found 12 kg of MD in his locker at Marine Drive police station.

According to investigators, Kalokhe was in a relationship with Patankar, and used to supply MD through her. Kalokhe was arrested in the first week of March.

Sources said police teams have visited Surat, Lonavla, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri and Goa, among other places, to apprehend Patankar. They have searched the different homes she has lived in, as well as those of her relatives. “She has nearly 25 SIM cards. We have kept her kin in the city under surveillance. From our informers, we gather she is constantly changing locations.,” said a senior official of the Mumbai police.
